The General Directorate of Taxes and the United States Department of the Treasury have embarked on a cooperation to develop an assistance project for the petroleum sector

The Deputy General Director of Taxes, Mr Xhavit Çurri, also accompanied by directors of the key directorates at GDT, held a meeting today with experts and representatives from the United States Department of the Treasury, Office of Technical Assistance (OTA):

Part of the delegation was the Director of Revenue Advisory Program, Mr William M. Remington, as well as field experts Mr David Guzy and Mrs Kathy Robbins.

The aim of this meeting is to lay down the foundations for developing a further cooperation among the GDT and the United States Department of the Treasury, Office of Technical Assistance (OTA), to develop an assistance project for the Tax Administration, especially for the Directorate of Large Taxpayers.

Such assistance will help to increase accomplishments, identify the needs of the Tax Administration, deliver dedicated trainings, as well as to increase experience in the area of transfer pricing in the domain of petroleum.

During his remarks, the representative of the U.S. Department of the Treasury, Office of Technical Assistance (OTA), Mr William M. Remington, appreciated the cooperation to date and said that further development is much needed to have in the future a strategy that is well defined and sustainable.

The main objectives of this assistance project will be:

 

  • To increase know-how of business practices in the area of petroleum;
  • To strengthen audit procedures on revenues generated by this sector;
  • To conduct inspections based on risk analysis and inspection strategy;
  • To improve cooperation and information sharing among the GDT and the National Agency of Natural Resources (NANR);
  • To enhance skills in the audit procedures for this sector;
  • To build and enhance capacities for rules on revenues;
  • To provide dedicated trainings in order to enhance HR skills.

 

On the other hand, the Deputy General Director of Taxes, Mr Çurri, transmitted to the delegation the availability to further increase inter-institutional cooperation.
