Submission of purchase and sales books for VAT is removedThere is no longer a need for VAT taxpayers to visit the tax offices, in order to submit their sales and purchases books within the 14th of each month, as required previously. In the spirit of ongoing reform and modernization of the tax system in Albania, supported also by the Millennium Challenge Albania project, administered by USAID, the new Decision of the Minister of Finance, no 17, dated on 13.05.2008, “On the Value Added Tax”, removes the requirement of the monthly submission of sales and purchases books, while reconfirming both, the legal obligation for accurate and regular record-keeping by businesses as well as the principle of self-declaration and selective tax audits.

New law on tax procedures enters into force
The new tax procedures law, which entered into force on June 25, 2008, serves as a cornerstone to the establishment of a new modern, efficient and fair tax administration in Albania. The law marks a historic change regarding the collection and administration of taxes, thus putting an end to irregular and arbitrary practices, by introducing the self-declaration principle and emphasizing a fair and transparent relationship between taxpayers and the tax administration.
